The One about RVBTO…

As posted on my RVB journal…

I figured I could start the mass jounal creation process as most of the other attendee’s/staff/special guests are probably just now being removed from the second bar of the night and finding their way stumbling to the various ‘beds’ people are calling theirs for this weekend.

I’m feeling mixed emotions right now. I met some incredible new friends, worked with a group of amazingly dedicated people and it brings to a close a year of new experiences and the attempt to struggle to have a social life amid massive amounts of work from various sources.

RVBTO last year was the first time I’d gone to any kind of fan event, and I very nearly didn’t go because I wasn’t sure how big a nerd everyone else was going to be… I eventually decided to go, late as I was, and met a few of the Toronto regulars.
Who also seem to have figured out how tap into my A-type personality, and drag me into helping out.
Ok, so I offered that day to help the next year.

And here we are, a year later.

Over the past few months, we’ve gotten together, argued, debated, and agreed on countless different subjects, and the resulting adventure is now 2/3s done, with one final kickass day to go.

For any intersted, the ‘event’ kicked off for me after finishing a double shift on thurs, going straight (if a little late) to ThundEra’s* place, with the intent to crash for a few hours, then head down to Breakfast Television’s Viewer Appreciation Day to see if we couldn’t get some more promo out there…
We so didn’t go to sleep. Because I’m working today (Sunday), I’m missing out on the scavenger hunt, I helped write it out instead, making sure that the ‘directions’ weren’t too obtuse. I think ya’ll have fun with it!
Smooches to Thundera, even if she kept me up all night…

All I have to say is Amber joins the elite rank of being my Aussie lover, (along with a New Zelander who’s not on this site) and if either of us ever see another clown who says anything REMOTELY like “Unblieveable” again, we may very well go postal.
I’m sure someone else will explain.
Oh, and while I pity them for being out in the cold morning air, I desperatly hate snakes.
Smooches to Amber, just don’t tell my bf… .

After nearly passing out several times at work, I left an hour early and went home, originally entertaining thoughts of a nap, but getting entangled into MSN conversations quickly derailed that thought, and soon one of my friends who was coming down for the event was calling me, and I was back up again, and going down to let him into the building. We hung out for a bit, then headed back downtown for the LAN hosted in tandem with the DORK boys.
I’ve talked about these guys before, they’re the only LAN tournement hosters that I’ve come across in toronto. And while I don’t think it was quite what alot of people expected, we know what to expect now, and can work things out accordingly next year.
Kathleen ( ) joined us for a bit, before heading out with Lukie, the chosen chaperoness for the weekend.
Smooches to Lukie for her excellent directional skills.

After that, thoes who had gone to torment themselves with paintball bruises joined thoes of us who had been lanning and we all sat down to drink ourselves silly. Aside, I ran into a girlfriend of mine who I haven’t seen since highschool graduation, and spent a few mins talking to her, before sharing hugs and going back to our respective parties. Got to catch up with some people I haven’t seen or heard from since thanksgiving (you know who you are!), and also met Niko and had a blast sharing opinions regarding Canadian and American policies, politics and history, and the way they’re taught…After we’d been asked nicely the second time to vacate the bar’s premises, we joined a large group in walking to a nearby pizza parlor, and munched. I’ve been craving ceaser salads recently, and caught flak from Dan for eating one…apparently it isn’t proper drunk munchies…but since when have I ever followed the crowd. Besides, I’d had pizza earlier when I ducked out of the lan…
Smooches to catching up with old friends, who shall remain nameless until they add me to their damn msn…

Funky and I made our way back home to the apartment, played a bit of drunken split screen, but he was exhausted as was I, so we wrapped it up quickly, and fell into dead sleeps. I was supposed to wake us up at 9:30 to get ready to go, but either my phone is going crazy, or because I was having trouble seeing straight right before I went to bed, I set it to 1:30 pm…oops. Funky woke up just before 10, and thought I had already left, because I couldn’t wake him up…he woke me up out of a dead sleep, and I once again proved that I’m an amazing person to get up, practically ‘inhale’ my clothes, and be ready to go out the door in a matter of minutes. Product of over sleeping, and having to get ready for work before I’m fully awake…
Smooches to Funky for hanging out, twas fun!!

Saturday progressed quickly from there, and though we left the apartment nearly 20 mins late, we were only a little late arriving, and I sent Funky off to settle himself into a seat, while I got to work, trying to pace Thundera down, and get her to give me tasks before being distracted and running off to do something else. I spent most of the day sitting at one of our tables outside the event room, because I wanted Thundera and Gee to be able to actually go in and watch some of the events. It was their turn this year.
Smooches to Elibear and Amber(x2) for keeping me company. Eli, you soooo owe me your AC #…Amber, you need to get yourself one of these…

Jeff, another friend of mine from out of town showed up right before the screening event started, and joined Funky and his friend who had also shown up by that point. Much fun was had by all, it seems, minus a few “why isn’t the machinima audio not working?!” related panics. Funky left with his friend Pete after season 4 ended to drive home, looking absolutly exhausted. Somewhere in here Niko and I shared a lovely moment of raving fangirlism about the wonder that is one Mr. Marty O’Donnell, the musical god of Halo, I also met the incredibly talented Elnea. This amazing woman’s burgeoning talent is music gives me little ripples of pleasure everytime I hear them…
Smoochs to Elnea for her amazing talent, you truely blow me away!

After the break ended, we set up for the Q&A, and we started to pack up the outer area, which allowed me to head inside the Event room the first time, and listen to the insanity that was the raffle drawing…Kathleen and I apparently share the issue of not being able to read numbers in the right order, so she’d hand it over to Dan to read. They then progressed into a very relaxed Q&A session, helped along by Dan’s Dirty Jokes…helped along by Niko…
Smooches to Mauller for being bloody evil. You are sick, and twisted. Don’t laugh!! (I can still pwn you in h2…)

After a quick clean up session, the event room was closed up, and thoes interested parties were having items signed, buying special autographed “Roses are Red, Violets are Blue” CD’s that Niko brought with him, and then it was across the street to The Ram and the Rye for much food and drink. I started feeling the lack of sleep and food at this point, so I took it extremly easy on the drinking. I’ve found that Tylenol and Smirnoff Ice wake me up (don’t ask), so I had one after my SotB cocktail, and we munched our way through some food. Jeff just recently got back from an extended holiday, and as he works in the Games industry as an account manager, he’s as busy as I am, but travels hella lot more, so we used this time to get caught up, shopwise and personal.
(All Read: Bitch about ps3, talk about the xbox live camera, talk about upcoming games and the rest of his Russian five week tour he was on recently…)
We joined the throng of people to listen to Niko and Luke McKay jam around for awhile, and then Jeff talked me into leaving. Or at least trying to leave. It’s very difficult to try and get drunk people to focus for longer than five seconds…
Smooches to all who tried to get me to have another drink. No voice + trying to say goodbye = quite difficult!
And I would smooch Gee, but she decided to give me love bites instead. To each her own…

An hour later, my goodbys had been given, more pictures had been taken, and I’d been picked up by Thundera, dropped in one stranger’s lap, who then proceeded to pick me up with one hand and have that picture taken…I feel Really badly, because I”m forgetting his name…but as soon as Thundera tells me who it was, I’ll edit!

For thes of you going to the Scavenger hunt, have an awesome time, think of me stuck at work…going to try and make it to Gee’s tomorrow night, but no promises, cuz I’m not sure how to get home after, nor what time I’d be able to get down there..
For the rest:
SMOOCHES TO ALL WHO CAME AND ROCKED THIS RVBTO!!!
SEE YA’LL IN 2007!

And for thoes of you at PAX, or SFX – See ya’ll soon!!

*Emphsis done on purpose…
