It makes me sad…

Once upon a time, there was a little girl, who loved to dance, played games of pretend for hour after hour, who thought she wasn’t necessarily beautiful, but didn’t really care either. She’d see her little guy friends play video games, and except for a few games, sucked so badly because no one ever bothered to explain how the games work, so when her parents told her video games were for boys, it didn’t really bother her…

Forward about…fifteen years. The little girl isn’t quite as little anymore and has gotten talked to trying an FPS on a console for the first time. And so began a very love-hate reationship with Halo 2 that’s continuing to this day.

Somewhere in there, she grew up, and learned that it doesn’t matter how well you play, it’s how you play the game, and if you enjoy it.

I went 26 and 9 in a game tonight, on Turf, and then later the same night, went 9 and 12. The only reason I make notice of these stats, comes from the conversation I had because of this second game. Agent, thesomeone and I had been playing together for about an hour, and Agent had just gone to bed before the second game in question…

In the second game, an random individual from the first game was on the other team again. Another individual from his team decided he was going to shittalk me the entire game, telling me I was a bad kid, and that I should just quit halo, I was so bad at the game (including as I was taking him down with a single SMG, to his dual smg/plasma – oh yeah, I’m so bad…). It just got more and more amusing. Then, after the game, he trashed me again, and finally left, after making another comment about how I was a fat, ugly chick, and didn’t I know girls didn’t play halo because we were so bad at it?

He then left, and I was all set to burst into giggles, when a random on my OWN team decided to add his two cents to the matter. This guy, who, by the way, went 15 and 14, went on to tell me, that while it was obvious that the individual was completly ignorant and how it didn’t matter, that I could either be totally fat or the hottest chick around, but that he had no problem pointing out that I was obviously a horrible player and that I should just give up and get another game, because I sucked and I should never, ever play halo again. He then proceeded to leave, and there was silence before the four of us who were remaining just broke in to absolute Giggles. The random on the opposite team was quite pleasent, and set about saying how the guy on my team was an idiot, who consistantly lost and was a horrible team player…It should also be pointed out that we matched against the same bad teammate later, and he quit out of the game within seconds…

It just makes me sad. What frustrates me, is that I can’t enjoy the game for what it’s worth, because no matter what I do, I am a representitive of not only my clan, not only of the chix, not only of the MVPs, but of the entire female gamer population. Everytime I win, lose or draw, or just mess around, I am interacting with individuals, who, let’s face it, might never have run across a female gamer in all their gameing to-date. It isn’t like this isn’t a common occurance, by any means, and the same attitude was definatly common at EB…

But after two years, it’s just not getting any better. And that drives me insane. The community isn’t getting any better, because it’s growing at such an expontial rate, that as fast as we find and get guys and girls alike to support us, there’s just that many more people to replace the idiots…

It’s so disheartening at times, that all you can do is laugh it off, because the alternative will just make you cry…

On a very side note, “Voltron: Defender of the Universe” is so bad, and is such an 80’s cartoon, that you just can’t stop watching it….E picked up the “Legend of Zelda” series, and I know he’s thinking of getting the “Mario Bros” Counterpart…I think he’ll have to add this series as well, and this year’s ‘theme’ at PAX will be bad 80’s cartoons….Now if only the original TMNT cartoons and Ghostbusters were on Dvd….goddamnit, I miss watching thoes cartoons…
